Itinerary
DAY 1: Cusco - Tipon - Pikillacta - Andahuaylillas
We’ll pick you up from your hotel between 8:30 and 8:45 AM to begin our journey through the beautiful Southern Valley of Cusco. This half-day tour offers the perfect mix of natural beauty, Inca engineering, and pre-Inca history, giving you a deeper insight into Peru’s rich cultural heritage.
Our first destination is Tipón, located about an hour from Cusco. This remarkable archaeological complex, dedicated to the worship of water, showcases the Incas’ mastery of hydraulic engineering. With a guided visit lasting approximately 50 minutes, you’ll admire the flowing fountains, ceremonial canals, and agricultural terraces — all still functioning after centuries.
Next, we’ll visit Pikillacta, a vast pre-Inca city built by the Wari civilization between the 6th and 9th centuries. As you walk through this ancient urban center, your guide will highlight the use of stucco on its walls and explain the city’s layout and significance. We’ll spend around 45 to 50 minutes exploring this unique site.
Our final cultural stop is in the quiet town of Andahuaylillas, home to the famous “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” — a stunning 17th-century church filled with baroque art, gold leaf, and vibrant murals that blend Catholic and Andean symbolism. This is a true hidden gem of Peru’s colonial past.
Before returning to Cusco, we’ll make a short stop in Saylla, a traditional town known for its local food. You’ll have about 50 minutes to relax, enjoy a snack (optional), or simply take in the local atmosphere.
We’ll then head back to the city, with drop-off near Cusco’s Plaza de Armas around 4:30 PM, concluding a memorable journey through the southern wonders of the Andes.
