Itinerary
DAY 1: Exploring the Sacred Valley & Arrival in Aguas Calientes
At 7:00 AM, after breakfast at your hotel in Cusco, your guide will pick you up in a comfortable, modern vehicle to begin an unforgettable journey through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You’ll experience breathtaking views, meet local people, explore artisan markets, and visit incredible archaeological sites that tell the story of this fascinating region.
Your first stop is the charming town of Chinchero, where you’ll visit a local family that preserves the ancient tradition of weaving. Friendly alpacas and guinea pigs will greet you, and you’ll have the chance to feed them while learning about their unique textile techniques using natural dyes.
Next, you’ll head to the Moray Archaeological Park, famous for its impressive circular terraces set against the majestic Andes. Your guide will explain how the Incas used this site as an agricultural laboratory, creating different microclimates on each terrace.
From there, you’ll visit the salt mines of Maras, where thousands of salt ponds have been in use since pre-Inca times. It’s one of the most iconic photo spots in the Sacred Valley, and your guide will help you capture the perfect shot.
For lunch, you’ll enjoy a gourmet meal at a renowned restaurant in Urubamba, featuring fresh, local ingredients and a variety of traditional Peruvian dishes, with vegetarian options available.
After lunch, you’ll explore the impressive ruins and terraces of Ollantaytambo, an important Inca fortress that guarded the access to the trail to Machu Picchu.
Finally, you’ll board the panoramic Vistadome train with your guide and enjoy a scenic 1 hour 45 minute journey to Aguas Calientes, the gateway town to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you’ll check into your hotel and coordinate dinner plans at a prestigious local restaurant included in your tour, while preparing for your Machu Picchu visit the next day.
DAY 2: Machu Picchu – The Lost City of the Incas | Back to Cusco
At 9:00 AM, after enjoying breakfast at your hotel, your guide will accompany you to the bus station in Aguas Calientes. From there, a short and scenic ride will take you to the entrance of the iconic Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the most magical and awe-inspiring places on Earth.
Once inside, your expert guide will lead you through the citadel’s fascinating architecture and history. Wander through ancient plazas, climb carved stone staircases, and soak in the energy of this sacred Inca site. Many believe Machu Picchu to be a powerful spiritual center, and standing among its stones, surrounded by mountains and clouds, it’s easy to understand why.
After the guided tour, you’ll have some free time to absorb the beauty of the site before returning by bus to Aguas Calientes. There, you can enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (not included), stroll through town, or browse the artisan markets.
